The lunches in the church held on the first Saturday of each month have provided a very good opportunity for fundraising in aid of different charities.  There is a charity stall at each lunch stocked and run by Newnham residents the proceeds of which go to a different charity every month. The stalls are an added attraction for lunch-goers, selling cakes, books, plants, bric-a-brac or any combination.

Scarecrow Festival

We are having a ‘Scarecrow Festival’ at St Peter’s Church. The event will last for the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd May. There will be entertainment, dancing, music etc to perform throughout the day, and a variety of things to do and see…not forgetting wonderful refreshments inside the church.

The event is taking place to raise vital funds for SARA – The Severn Area Rescue Association, and for the work of the parish of St Peter’s. As part of the fundraising, we will be parachuting teddy bears from the Church roof and locking the Vicar up overnight in the Church Tower!

We would like participants (that’s YOU) to create a ‘scarecrow’ either a portrayal of your organisation (i.e. a schoolchild, a librarian, a policeman, brownie and artist etc) or a famous person or character from a book, TV or film  (The Queen, Shrek, Long John Silver, Peter Pan etc). The scarecrows will be on display in church for the whole weekend, this will ensure that as many people as possible will have the opportunity to view your displays. You might even want to promote your organisation with flyers etc.

There will be prizes for different categories of Scarecrow, so now’s the time to get planning your theme!

It would be really great if you would join us in this fun event for 2010, the more scarecrows we can get into the church the better!
