Read Write workshop
Please join us after school next Tuesday when Mrs Broady will explain Read Write. This is a scheme that we use to teach children their sounds and learn how to read and spell. Children usually start this scheme half way through Reception after they have learnt their initial Jolly Phonic sounds. On this occasion Mrs Broady will explain the sound work and the Read Write reading books; if you would like a further session on spelling please let us know. Mrs Dallow and Mrs Harris will provide a crèche.
Global School Award
I am pleased to announce that we have gained the Global School award level 1. There are 8 key concepts and over the last 2 years the children have been focusing on global citizenship, human rights and sustainable development. Over the next two years we will be exploring more themes such as social justice and conflict resolution in order to gain level 2.
NSPCC Collection day
Thank-you for supporting the children in raising money for the NSPCC. They raised a grand total of £727.02 of which the school received £218.10.
Fair Trade
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Fair-Trade Assembly last week when we launched our attempt to become a Fairtrade school. The children led the assembly and then carried out a series of activities during the day linked to the making and distribution of cotton. They made biscuits and these were sold along with Fairtrade products at breaktime. The children made and decorated bunting which is displayed in school at the moment; this will be sent to the Fair-Trade Foundation to make the World`s largest Bunting and be entered in The Guinness Book of Records. The children have also made a fair-trade collage in the design of a peacock which will be displayed at a Coop store in the Forest; we will let you know when and where it will be displayed.
Greenhouse
Please remember we need as many 2 litre clear plastic bottles (coke, 7UP or lemonade bottles) as you can collect to build our greenhouse. If you could bring them washed into school and put them into the black bin bags in the cycle rack we would really appreciate it.
Celebrating achievement.
We have decided that we would like to celebrate pupil achievement on a more regular basis. When a pupil has achieved an award a certificate will be presented to them in worship on a Friday and then displayed before finally being taking home.
Clubs
We try to incorporate as many children into our school run clubs as possible. The one exception to this is the gym club that Mrs Aston runs on a Thursday. There is a limited set of gym equipment for the children and therefore only 10 children at once can take part. If your child has requested to join this club they will be advised when it is their turn.
PTFA
The PTFA are still trying to raise money to pay for the Outside Reception area. There are a number of events taking place this year it would be great for them to have your continued support.
