Staffing

Mrs Broady has now taken over from Mr Cardona as SENCO and Child Protection Officer and has started her postgraduate qualification in this which has now been made compulsory. I try wherever possible to ensure consistency of education for all children and will endeavour to put myself or staff in to cover on days that Mrs Broady is out. Miss Hopkins has now started her maternity leave and we are pleased to welcome Mrs Susan Riordan who is covering this. Mrs Riordan will be working in class Year 3/4 and in the infants some afternoons.

Welly Walk

A big thankyou from the PTFA for all your support for the Welly Walk.  The whole school went on a 1 mile walk around the village last Friday in aid Sports Relief and the Outside Reception area. It was a good chance to blow away the cobwebs and bugs especially after the Alders assembly on germs! Mark Harper our MP joined Alders for their assembly and was very impressed by the behavior of the children and the school environment. Thanks to Mr and Mrs Penfold who walked the route and led this on the day. Please could you send sponsorship money in by Monday so the PTFA can count it and a new total can be put on our jigsaw board.

Circus Showcase

Please come and join us next Tuesday at 9.30 for our Circus Showcase. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this topic and would love to share their work with you. We have changed the time to 9.30 to give the children time to dress up. The Parent Support Advisors will be offering tea and coffee before it starts.

Celebration assembly

Our termly celebration assembly will be held next Thursday at 9.00. Please come and join the children celebrating their achievements.

Fairtrade

The recent Big Brew raised £38.10 for Traidcraft charity. The cakes were amazing I hope that the PTFA can have an equally successful Tea Party next Thursday.

SRE

Teachers will be delivering the SRE units of work in the first half of the summer term. Any parent wishing to exercise their right to withdraw their children need to inform school. For more information see Mr Cardona.

Church

This Friday our morning worship is at church. Reverend Juliet is running a Saturday kid`s club at St Peter`s Church on Saturday 27th March from 2.00-4.00pm; I know everyone has a wonderful time at these events, come along and join in. It is also All Age Palm Sunday Service at St Peter`s Church on Sunday 28th March from 11.00-12.00pm. Everyone is welcome.

Outside Reception area.

The PTFA would like to invite you to a Tea Party next Thursday after school to show you the new plans for the Outside Reception Area; donations of cakes gratefully received. There will be a charge of 50p for a cup of tea and a cake. The School Council will also be raising money for the Outside Reception Area and children`s equipment on the first Friday back 24th April. They will be opening a tuck shop for the day selling flap jacks, fruit, juice and other healthy snacks for a charge of 50p.  Mrs Carter will also be selling tickets at the Circus Showcase Day to name the Easter Bunny £1 a go.

Enrichment.

Next term it is all change for enrichment again! As parents have expressed an interest for more drama in the curriculum, we have invited Artspace to work with us; the juniors will access this initially and it will then continue for the Reception, Years 1 and 2 later in the year. The infants will have Drawing and sketching, Gardening and embroidery with Mr Cardona, Mrs Pearson and Mrs Bridgwood. In the Juniors the Year 4 and 6 will swim first and then take part in Playground Sport with Mrs Dallow and Mrs Harris. Year 3 and 5 will take Football with Suttonsoccer and Drama with Artspace. After half term Year 4 and 6 will swap with Year 3 and 5.

Comenius

The children are taking part in a Comenius day tomorrow where they will be designing `Green`posters . These will be distributed around the village along with our water detectives `Catch It` and `Cloudy`. These will also be sent to our partner schools to encourage everyone to think sustainably. Remember Germany and Ireland will be visiting us from the 9th to 13th June; please would you let me know if you could offer 2 children an evening with your family on the 10th June.

Clubs

Netball will still be on a Wednesday and will be run by Mrs Clarkson and Mrs Morris; Years 4, 5 and 6 are welcome. Cookery, ICT, Art and Fun with Juliet will still take place on a Wednesday. GPJ will start on the second Monday for Year 6 initially to prepare for the competition in the summer term; Mrs Dallow will be running this. Mrs Harris will be sending out a new club letter for you to sign up and they will start the second week back.

Termly overview

Some parents have expressed an interest for an overview of learning. It is not easy to give an exact week by week plan at the start of the term as time spent on areas of learning will be dependant on children`s progress. However we would like to give you as much information as possible for you to be able to support your child`s learning and therefore the teachers will post a weekly overview on their classroom door. When the website is up and running it will also be posted there.

Painting Shirts.

Many of you have provided your child with a painting shirt but we still desperately need more. If anyone has any old shirts that they could supply us with we would be very grateful. We keep these painting shirts for every child to use but if you would like your child to keep their own shirts for themselves please label this clearly.
